phantomfixer Posted June 2, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 2, 2016 Here is one for ya...came across this on FB...I like Warbirds, I think...but check out the civilian(?) helmet, or maybe prewar AAC? with stitched on HS-33 headset, and what appears to be early B-7 goggles, B-3 life preserver and the wicked A-2.... Navybean Posted June 2, 2016 Share #2 Posted June 2, 2016 Great pic he was serving in Alaska area I believe. Could helmet be a pre war A-6 maybe. I believe they were leather and had a simular chin strap.
doinworkinvans Posted June 2, 2016 Share #3 Posted June 2, 2016 I think the helmet may be pre-war as well, but the stitched on receivers are way cool. I am thinking with him being in alaska, this could be just pre-war or right at the beginning. Awesome pic!
TBMflyer Posted June 2, 2016 Share #4 Posted June 2, 2016 Captain Morgan Griffin, 54th Fighter Squadron at Adak, Alaska. On 2/13/43 Griffin shot down a 'Jake' seaplane. One of the best images of a fighter pilot in WWII. Mark

bazelot Posted June 2, 2016 Share #8 Posted June 2, 2016 I own exactly the same helmet equipped with Navy leather earcups. The helmet is a pre war leather commercial helmet with a silk lining. I believe there is a brand inside, I will check tonight. Mine is named to a catapult pilot on the USS Texas
