US Coast Guard Command Afloat Badge

Recommended Posts

The United States Coast Guard issues a Command Afloat insignia which is comparable to the U.S. Navy's Command at Sea pin, called the Command Afloat Badge. The badge features a gold badge which features an eagle sitting on an anchor with a silver shield on the eagle's chest. Above the eagle's outstretched wings is a ribbon showing 13 stars to represent the 13 colonies.

This example is secured with three clutch fasteners and is marked "1/20GF on Ster."

Authorized in 1960 about the same time as the USN insignia. The CG Commission pennant is circled above the eagle.. Still in use today..

Have not been able to find a picture of the prototype CG Command at Sea insignia, but this is a best representation from the description and reference from the Reservist magazine back in 1961. The prototype looks like it was revived 10 years later for the enlisted Officer in Charge Afloat insignia..
