Unfortunately, per the video, this is not the first time it has happened.

 

Digging and metal detecting have gone on in Virginia for decades, but most people have the decency to check in with the land owner first.

 

How anyone in that area even thought this was a good idea is beyond belief.

I'm sure that the perpetrating individuals know exactly where to go and when to get in and out.

Unless things have changed, the battlefield park used to be unfenced.

 

Given the ferocity of the fighting there, they could go just about anywhere on the park and probably strike a find.

 

The park is basically a portion of the siege line that surrounded Petersberg for months.

 

I am sure whoever did it will have some warped rationalization that "the stuff was just sitting in the ground and no one was doing anything to get it out."

 

And then they will sell everything they found on public land for a tidy personal profit.
