usaaf93 Posted May 19, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 19, 2016 Hello I moved recently in Eastern France and today as I was hanging out I found this memorial in Bathelement. This is the place where the first US soldiers were killed during ww1. Here are some pictures of the memorial. I took also a picture of the landscape. It is typical eastern France countryside : hills, forests and prairies ! Rest in peace soldiers. Julien Here are some close ups
gomorgan Posted May 19, 2016 Share #2 Posted May 19, 2016 Merl Hay was from my home State, and the DesMoines area, Merl Hay Blvd. is named in his honor and leads out of town and toward Camp Dodge, Hdq's Iowa National Guard.

BEAST Posted May 20, 2016 Share #5 Posted May 20, 2016 Thanks for posting. Two of the "firsts" that are mentioned here are Hoosiers. Both James Gresham (Evansville) and Alexander Arch (South Bend) were from Indiana.
