bayonetman Posted May 7, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 7, 2016 Just saw a canteen that the family says is US Civil War period, although I have my doubts. May not even be US.1. It is slightly thinner2. It is enameled blue. See edge of throat in second photo. 3. Top has screw on cap instead of corkCovered with cloth, sort of brown.Has same sling loops as the US Civil War versionSling is well made leather and definitely oldSpout is marked WD over 55I was thinking possibly a commercial version for sale to militias or individual soldiers, but it could be foreign military for all I know.Anyone have any ideas of where to search?
