Cup, Belgian made.

Recommended Posts

the US set up factories in Belgium in 1945 producing these and mess kits I've never seen this stamp on a canteen cup but it is one of the manufacturer markings for the mess kit so I guess that particular manufacturer could have made canteen cups as well

UMAL made canteen cups and canteens for the Belgian army for many years after the war, but they are slightly different patterns from the original US M1910, and are not interchangeable (ie, a US canteen will not fit in a Belgian army cup, and a Belgian canteen will rattle around in a US Army cup). UMAL also made M51 helmet shells for the Belgian forces (ie, M1 clones). Thus, it is no surprise that this company would also make some US pattern items under contract.

Hello

for what's it's worth, I bought a UMAL meant cans for cheap at a flea market here in France (i.e outside the surplus market)

I would think this cup is WW2 as the manufacture of cup and meat cans is well documented in the Army green books

what, me worry?

Hello,

Cantenn cup and mess tins were produced in 1945, the canteen cup are quite rare.
Those produced by the Belgian Army after 1951 are dated and labeled ABL + date.
Good find,
Stef
