ghost Posted May 6, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 6, 2016 I need some help to identify this flight jacket. I got it with a large group of USAF and CAP uniforms and flight suits. What ere would this be from? Is there any value to these? Thanks for any help CB

phantomfixer Posted May 6, 2016 Share #3 Posted May 6, 2016 I would need to see the upper tag better, but I think this is a civilian clone CWU-45...
northcoastaero Posted May 6, 2016 Share #4 Posted May 6, 2016 According to wikipedia.org, the 555th TFS operated from Luke AFB in AZ from 1974-1991. They flew the F-15 Eagle in a training role under TAC 405th TTW. If original or repro, the jacket may be from the 1980s? What type and brand of zipper is on the front and on the pocket of the top left arm? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/555th_Fighter_Squadron#Modern_era
hink441 Posted May 6, 2016 Share #5 Posted May 6, 2016 That is not a military issued jacket. The patches are nice though. Chris

flyboy53 Posted May 8, 2016 Share #8 Posted May 8, 2016 My guess is that some airman bought the jacket and placed the patches for his own use. But F-15 Eagle Driver means a pilot/officer and there isn't any officer rank or evidence of it. If a true issue flight jacket, the zippers would have been black and the patches would have been applied with Velcro. The rank would have been subdued and sewn directly on the shoulders. Very interesting SOC patches.
M60 Driver Posted May 9, 2016 Share #9 Posted May 9, 2016 Any tag with an RN number is a commercial import. You can even find the importer of record online, in this case a Rothco jacket, Rothco being one of the largest wholesalers to the traditional army-navy surplus store market. I owned a surplus store for decades and bought from Rothco on nearly a weekly basis. You would all be surprised how many vets and even those currently serving buy imported items to supplement their kit bags.
Randy Posted May 10, 2016 Share #10 Posted May 10, 2016 The 555 patch looks suspect as well. It looks like a commercially produced version. The unit used a darker green on the official ones. Though they called themselves a TFS, their real designation while at Luke with the F-15 was 555 Tactical Fighter Training Sq. This didn't change until 1991, when all USAF fighter related squadrons dropped tactical, interceptor and/or training and were designated Fighter Squadron only. Attached is a period 555 TFTS, one of several variations but all use darker green. Randy
