Tonomachi Posted April 29, 2016 Share #1 Posted April 29, 2016 You see a lot of these on eBay but this is the first one I've seen that looks like it could be real. It looks Philippine made but when was it made back in the 70s or last month? I like the fact that USMCR is embroidered on the anchor which is missing from all of the other ones you see on eBay. Tonomachi Posted April 5, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted April 5, 2018 I thought I would revisit this thread after obtaining what might be an original 4th Force Recon Company patch that is very close to the one in Post # 1 & 2. The eBay seller who has been selling the mentioned patch in Post #1 & 2 is "abqmetal" who I believe operates out of or gets their insignia made in the Philippines. Some of the insignia that abqmetal sells looks like the insignia that came out of the Philippines during the Vietnam War in the 60s and 70s. I came across someone on eBay selling three different USMC Force Recon & Recon Battalion paddle plaques that looked authentic. One of the three was from the 4th Force Recon Company (see photos). The patch affixed to the paddle (see photo) was very similar to the one in Post # 1 & 2 but there were minor differences.
Tonomachi Posted April 5, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted April 5, 2018 Recently I obtained an example of a 4th Force Recon Company patch that is an exact match with the one on the mentioned paddle plaque. I took side by side photographs of my newly acquired patch (left side) and the one in Post # 1 & 2 (right side). They are close but there are differences. The 4th Force Recon Company is a reserve unit and this particular patch is I believe an early design. Another possibility that Firefighter mentioned is that this unit recently placed an order for a number of these patches from a vendor or maybe even the same vendor in the Philippines. Tonomachi Posted April 5, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted April 5, 2018 You can really tell the differences from a close up of the construction of both patches. First is what I believe to be an original patch.
Tonomachi Posted April 5, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted April 5, 2018 I am having trouble compressing photos now but here is a smaller image of the close up of the patch in Post #1 &
