Chris Posted April 19, 2016 Share #1 Posted April 19, 2016 This isn't in the best condition, but it's an original piece and the embroidery detail is beautiful. Just wondering is some of you early USN insignia experts could put any more specificity to the age?

sigsaye Posted April 19, 2016 Share #3 Posted April 19, 2016 This style was the standard from 1859_1866. As all ENLISTED insignia was individually hand embroidered, mostly byou the individual Saturday, they are all different. After 1866, the Navy printed templates ( often sold as ACW Navy insignia), but these too, were individually hand embroidered. By the way, that's beautiful. Most likely used on a dress blue jacket or a set of Liberty Blues.
Brian Keith Posted April 24, 2016 Share #4 Posted April 24, 2016 Very nice. A professional textile conservator could clean, stabilize the blue silk and inlay matching color fabric and improve the looks on this great insignia. Thanks for posting it.
