Is this Pre-WWII US or Theater-Made? Odd Cross-stitched Sergeant

These came with a recent 4th Armored grouping that I picked up, and I have never seen anything like it. I searched on here, but found one post about rank from a similar era that someone referred to as "Golden Weave," but those did not appear to have the odd cross-stitch pattern in them that these do.

The man was in Hawaii around 1940-41, and in the Panama Canal area in 1936-37 before becoming an early member of the 4th Armored.

Anybody know?

Generally, these were typical of Pre-war vendor made chevrons. Used from the 1930s into WWII. I have some CCC chevrons with identical embroidery that range from 1933-1942.

Is there a term for it? I saw similar ones without the x stitch and figured they might be similar but nothing exactly like it.

There were a couple of different embroidery styles used in the 1930s.

The first is the "basket weave or cross stitched" you've shown above. Here is a sample of a First Sergeant in my collection:

The second is an early flat style embroidery. here is a Supply Sergeant:

A typical CCC Chevron of the 1930s-1942 follows:
