catalinajack Posted March 28, 2016 Share #1 Posted March 28, 2016 My mom recently passed away. In going through her stored items, we found two clips of .50 cal ammo, yes clips. I am hoping someone can identify the purpose of these five-round clips because as far as I know, no Browning MG used a clip. The cartridges are clearly blanks. The head stamp is FA 40, which I think means Frankford Arsenal 1940. After returning from combat in the South pacific (US Navy PBY's - Guadalcanal, Munda, Bougainville) my dad became a gunnery instructor at Jacksonville NAS. I suspect he kept these rounds from JAX all these years. Dad passed away in 1974 and Mom must have kept them stashed away all these years. Pictures are attached. Can anyone identify the clips and purpose.
themick Posted March 28, 2016 Share #2 Posted March 28, 2016 Those are 30 caliber, not 50. The stripper clips they are in are standard ones for the 03 Springfield or Enfield rifles. Steve
Bill in VA Posted March 28, 2016 Share #3 Posted March 28, 2016 They appear tp be M1909 blanks, based on the impressed rim on the case mouth.
gomorgan Posted March 28, 2016 Share #4 Posted March 28, 2016 I'll second that 30 cal. & stripper clips for 03 Springfield or 1917 Enfield.
robinb Posted March 28, 2016 Share #5 Posted March 28, 2016 One more thing. The NM stands for National Match. Meaning they were once ball rounds, used, then reloaded as blanks. Not uncommon.
