seanmc1114 Posted May 6, 2016 Share #55 Posted May 6, 2016 The explanation I have heard as to why officers normally don't wear the badges is because they are expected to be proficient in their assigned weapons, so a qualification badge is seen as being redundant. Kind of like the logic behind why officers aren't awarded the Good Conduct Medal, that is that the conduct the medal recognizes is the minimum expected of all officers so there is no need to give them a medal for it. This one here wears the Airplane Observer Badge, with the U.S. in the center of the circle, at first we thought it was the Aircrewman Badge, but no way on that one right, that one came out in WWII. Fielder was on Gen Short's Staff at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor, he's seen in the movie Tora Tora Tora!
