usaaf93 Posted March 13, 2016 Share #1 Posted March 13, 2016 Hello I was watching the 444th BG website and I saw this picture of Leon Weber shot down over Japan in 1945. I noticed the harness of the man on the left hand side. Do you know what it is ? It looks like a mix of RAF observer harness and RAF B5 parachute ? Thanks for your help Julien
pararaftanr2 Posted March 13, 2016 Share #2 Posted March 13, 2016 Julien, That is a type B-9 back parachute, standardized in January 1944. It combined the canopy and pack of the B-8 with a harness copied from the British type with a quick release box. It was found to be unsatisfactory and was replaced a year later by the improved B-10.
