bryang Posted March 13, 2016 Share #1 Posted March 13, 2016 On an operation in western Baghdad we were looking for a suspected IED maker. We hit his house, and - of course - his wife claimed that he had been "kidnapped." This was a common claim when searching for a bad guy ... which really meant that he was laying low in Jordan or Syria, or was simply hiding at a buddies' house down the road. During the search I found several strands of Christmas tree lights - of course not for Christmas, these were commonly used in IED making. Also I found two chest rigs, each with three AK magazines fully loaded. Iraqi households were each authorized one fully functional AK assault weapon and one loaded magazine. Anything more generally indicated a bad guy (and handguns were absolutely "no-no"). I kept one set-up (minus the bullets), and a buddy kept he other. I had rather forgotten about these until I recently discovered them among some other assorted junk in a plastic tote in the garage. I'll find a place to display it in my "man cave!" First photo is me in the dude's 'crib.'
bellasilva Posted March 13, 2016 Share #2 Posted March 13, 2016 Very cool! Are you aware if he ever became "unkidnapped" and turned up somewhere?
jasonm Posted March 13, 2016 Share #3 Posted March 13, 2016 Thank you for your service Bryang. The rig & mag's are great but I can not believe you didn't grab that boombox with the cassette player on the cabinet behind you.....LOL. (apologies in advance not trying to make light of your post at all but I could not resist)
