Picked up a load of press photos from the USS Hancock from 1962. Others in ship and ephemera forums. I'm not savy as to aircraft names and designations, so will leave it to the viewer to ID. This was the only color picture in the bunch.Enjoy!

Here's a few more...the fueling picture was with the group, but I don't know if it was actually related to the Hancock. A nice picture by any means.

Color photo: A-3 Skywarrior on left, McDonnell F3H Demon on right

Douglas A-1 Skyraider

Another A-3

Douglas A-4 Skyhawk

Vought F-8 Crusader

F3H

KA-4 refueling a North American FJ-2/3 Fury

Grumman E-1 Tracer

A-4 and F3H

I know, I'm mixing up my pre and post-1962 designations. Just using the ones they were more commonly known by.

I have never heard of a KA-4 before, I always thought they used buddy stores on a regular A-4 to fulfill the tanker role. Is this correct?

Good point. I think you're right. It's all done with pods, as the picture shows. It's just a quick way to distinguish the tanker role from the normal A-4. I believe it was the same way with the A-6. Same plane off the factory floor, but when it was being used as a tanker it would be referred to as a KA-6 in the ATO and in normal conversation. Unlike, say, the KC-135 which was a completely different model.
