Thanks for the comments guys. I really hope people are enjoying these pieces as much as I do!

Here's some of Coryell's logbook. He wasn't the most descriptive, but it's still a great piece to have in his collection. I have a soft spot for logbooks to say the least!

Whoops....first he had to get there. Sorry, mixed up the order and for some reason the uploader wouldn't let me 'un-upload' and change it :-)

Here's a postwar letter congratulating him on more 'awards'

He received a leave in April 1945 so he missed the first VLR mission, and a subsequent squadron photo that I have seen in books and on the internet!

The grouping also includes several of the 7th Fighter Command General Order dated papers with all promotions, awards, etc which is pretty neat to go through. Here's one for his 4th Bronze Oak Leaf

Just read through the thread....extremely interesting thread, great legwork. The VLR guys had it rough, IMO, mentally, flying over long expanses of water and long distances...and the remote areas where civilities of war were not observed...many documented stories of atrocities committed by the Japanese military...can't imagine how those unlucky enough to be downed and captured could have felt...the brutality of their treatment...

A few more pieces of my 7th Fighter Command collection before I get to my last grouping....

Here's a couple of great books on the 7th. First is a 1947 printed First edition Wings over the Pacific book. It's a collection of photographs from the combat photographers and AAF public relations teams. Very neat book and easily found and cheap in most cases, but definitely worth it. It looks like there was supposed to be a volume 2, but I have never seen one.

Cool picture of Chichi Jima, where I began this thread with the Sunsetter's first strike against enemy controlled islands

Tons of photos. In the back of the book, they have an index of identified soldiers who are pictured throughout the book. Although not identified by actual picture, it tells you the page they are on and where they are from.

Here's another neat little book, this more of a magazine. What's interested is that it doesn't contain much of the Fighter Groups, and I wondered if it was because they were under the umbrella of the 20th AAF, and this book focused solely on the 7th bombing and support squadrons. At any rate, a nice add for the collection!

The official history of the 7th Army Air Force....One Damned Island After Another. I've yet to read it, but it's on the list. This is a December 1946 2nd printing.

Here's one detailing the first VLR mission....I had it signed by a 78th FS pilot who I still stay in touch with after I got to meet him at a Reading WWII weekend a couple years ago.

I matted this and put it in a frame as well.
