Hi,

Well this is my 1,000th post, Yay! :D Not a bad subject for it either! :) I acquired a WAAC album with 85 photos in it. I don't know to much about the lady. I bought it from a lady who was friends with the WAAC woman and she couldn't tell me a whole lot about her.

I do know though that she was sent to the Pacific and some of the islands she was on was Papua New Guinea and Manila. In some of the photos the SSI I see some wearing appears to be the 9th Service Command patch. This is a lucky WAAC album I have found though, for out of the 100,000 WAC's in the war, just around 17,000 of them served overseas.

Hopefully some one here has some good knowledge of WAC's and could help me out a little on finding more about the lady. As always, comments are welcomed. :)

Photo 2: Page 11. These three photos plus some on the next three pages I think are all taken in Pittsburgh, PA. The building in the middle of the far right photo says, "Carpenters Hall" Near the roof.

Photo 1: Page 12. The statue in the middle and right photo says Barry under it.

Photo 2: Page 13. The far left photo says, "Berger Bros Company" on the window. All three of these photos seem to be taken for the house with the white door, could it be a famous landmark of a person that lived in Pittsburgh?

Photo 2: Page 25. The bottom right photo is of a native man and boy walking down the beach, the man looks like he knows to wave at the camera!

There was a group of WACs who served as cryptanalysts with MacArthur's GHQ at New Guinea and later the Philippines.

Do you have the woman's name, also any names that you find on the back of photos? These could be used to possibly help with research. I have a WAC officer's photo album and she was stationed at New Guinea, Philippines and Tokyo. She has all kinds of names written down and there is also a book written by an enlisted WAC who was stationed at these places and I was able to match faces from my album to some of those in the book. If you want to compare notes give me shout.

Hi there,

Thank you for the reply. Everything such as names and captions I wrote down on each post, there were some names mentioned and locations, just re-read all of my posts.

The ladies friend from which I acquired the album from was called, Glenda Freeman. She has passed away now but I doubt she was the one who took the pictures. She was in the Navy and the lady thinks she was born in the late 30's. She said that it might have belonged to a relative of Mrs. Freeman.

In one of my post near the end I said a last name that was written on the back of a couple photos which I think might... might be the lady who took the pictures.

Of course any help that you could provide would be extremely helpful and appreciated. Thanks!

Ah, I just read your signature a6skin9, and I just had to comment on it. I think every single word of it is true and is how I have always felt about this country, especially with the Mexican situation going on in the southwest. ermm.gif

Just in case you change your signature, I shall re-post it.

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American . . . There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have no room for but one flag, the American Flag . . . We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language . . . and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
