Salvage Sailor,

You have a crap-ton of Schofield-based baseball/softball photos (this last one from the 11th Quartermaster Regiment shows two players from their softball team). What is your interest and motivation for this post?

I've only been posting the baseball & softball archive.  I also have football, basketball, shooting competitions, track & field, gymnastics, boxing, polo & the Horse Shows too, all Hawaii related.

I have some football and basketball. I may have a boxing piece somewhere in the mix that accompanied the gold I was seeking.

Interesting that the larger portion of my collection is Hawaii focused.

The Cruiser USS Washington's team in 1911, when would they practice and play when aboard LOL. Washington by the way would be renamed Seattle, so Washington could be used for a new Battleship, USS Washington BB 47, Battleships using State names as you know, this BB however was stopped in production because of the Washington Naval Treaty, in 1922 and ultimately sunk as a Target Ship in 1924.

That's a great photo! How did you land this? I know that the glass plate negative is in the National Archives, so I am assuming this is a vintage print in your collection?

That's a nice softball stick! You can breathe some new life into it and slow the decaying process with a gentle cleaning with Goo Gone followed by a few coats of linseed oil. She'll look great and retain the age and use but won't look so dried out.

Nice pickup! Better watch out, the baseball equipment pursuit becomes addictive.

This 1915 photo (the Brown Brothers stamp dates to that year) of gobs playing baseball in their whites is such a treasure. I suspect this was taken in Panama.

I landed part of a scrapbook break that has a number of photos. The name of the veteran is not known (yet) but he captured a LOT of military baseball. Many of the photos are press/public relations pieces with a handful of snapshots from Florida.  This one of the "A. P. Bombers" is an absolute gem!
