Major Z Posted February 22, 2016 Share #1 Posted February 22, 2016 Hello all. I have five Quartermaster patches that I would like to share to see if anyone can shed some light on what they are. The first two I just picked up at the SoS a few days ago. The first one here has stumped some experts that I took it to at the show. I welcome any information on it and the others. So, here's the first of five: WANTED: I collect materials of any age related to the US Army Quartermaster Corps and from the long-defunct Commissary / Subsistence Corps. Anything goes and it doesn't have to be identified to a vet. If it's weird or unusual, please PM me! ASMIC #5650

Patchcollector Posted February 22, 2016 Share #8 Posted February 22, 2016 Neat pieces.I like them! High Flight Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silver wings; Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there I've chased the shouting wind along and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle flew; and while, with silent, lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. John Gillespie Magee, Jr. June 9, 1922 – December 11, 1941 " And each man stands with his face in the light of his own drawn sword. Ready to do what a hero can." - Elizabeth Barrett Browning Don't let the B@stards wear you down -"Vinegar" Joe Stillwell Reasonable people adapt themselves to the world.Unreasonable people attempt to adapt the world to themselves. All progress, therefore, depends on unreasonable people. Teamski Posted February 26, 2016 Share #11 Posted February 26, 2016 Nice find! So we are probably looking pocket patches for different QM units out of Fort Lee in the 1950's then? They seem to date from that period (matching twill backing on one and the similarity in construction to the 3rd ACR from the 1950's on the lightning patch). -Ski In Memory Of......Pte Harold Griffiths, 1805, 1/6th Manchester Regt, KIA June 4th, 1915 in GallipoliCpl Isaac Judges, 40494, 6th East Yorkshire Regt, KIA October 3rd, 1917 in YpresMay they rest in peace..... Major Z Posted March 11, 2016 Author Share #14 Posted March 11, 2016 Did you see post #10 above? I did; thank you. My inquiry for that first patch stands though. I've not encountered it before and I've been asked to provide it for inclusion in a new patch book. If anyone knows about it, that would help the author and me as well. Thanks! After parting out everything I believe that the buyer paid $280-300 for this one. -Steve OEF 11-12 veteran Selling off my 15 year private collection specializing in Home Front, AAF Schools, Aircraft Manufacturers, PX patches at www.ocsfollowme.com http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/usmfribbons/donation2014.gifhttp://www.usmilitariaforum.com/usmfribbons/donation2015.gifhttp://www.usmilitariaforum.com/usmfribbons/donation2016.gifhttp://www.usmilitariaforum.com/usmfribbons/donation2018.gif

Major Z Posted April 9, 2018 Author Share #20 Posted April 9, 2018 By chance in looking through a back-issue of ASMIC, I found the first patch listed is for a Quartermaster Radioman. That's all it said, so I don't know that its a definitive identification. I still don't really know its purpose other than that.
