Hello again,  After our short discussion of yesterday re, the made-for-movie patch, I scoured the internet looking for a pic. or scene in The Flying Tigers showing the patch used on some clothing such as a flight jacket and found none.  However, I found my post of 2016:  https://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/272141-flying-tigers-avg-patch/&tab=comments#comment-2190382 and Vintage Productions refers to the movie God Is My Co-Pilot made in 1945.  Searching the internet turned up this photo from the movie:

Some years back I got lucky when some Australian picker from Melbourne sold me his Disney at war section, still in mint condition. 

Since I'm far away from home, I'll try to dig it up from my laptop files, at worse asking my partner in Spain to get in an album. That is exciting

knowing others from all over the world took strong interest in WW2 fighting units whose DUIs--like the flying tigers AVG--

were designed pro bono & gratis by Disney Studios.

 

Get back soon. And, thanks to all who might want to share their AVG Flying Tigers, CNAC, CATF & 14th Airforce CBI dui or anecdotes in this site. Welcome all.

Thank you again for sharing. You hit it spot  in respect the right movie reference SuperAdmin  Bob of Vintage tried to point out some years back. 

Yes, this kind of patch, including mine, were overruns from that movie era.

 

Most of this design, that I've seen, had strips of silk embroidered in the tiger design, selling for upwards $7,000 on Ebay, some years back (also discussed in another site of this forum).

This is a large embroidered item.  It appears to be on parachute material and a seam is visible.  It is approximately 61 inches by 72 inches.  No idea about the history of the embroidered item.

I am new here, and have really enjoyed the Tigers section. You collection is remarkable. I have what look like two pins, but are in fact, a pair of earrings (the screw on kind). They seem to be authentic, but I can’t find any mention of W&H having made earrings. They have the same markings as the pins, except I see “MPA PIN” stamped on them as well (I edited the color on the last pic so you could better see that marking). I believe your expertise could be of assistance here. Do you know anything about these?

What an amazing thread, I found this forum while doing some research on patches given to me by grandfather who served in the Flying Tigers. One is a silk patch that was given to him by Tex Hill and the other two were off his uniform, one was dress and the other was from his khakis 

 

I would love to know more about the two bullion patches.

 

He was not a member of the original AVG but was part of the first group of USAAC soldiers sent to China after the AVG was folded in. He was the flight surgeon for the 75th and later the 308th.

Nice group of patches. The bullion patches depending on who you ask would be China Air Task Force July 1942-March 1943 pre dating  the 14th Air Force or could be called 14th Army Air Force for the right sleeve of the uniform. Assuming your Grandfather served during the China Air Task Force period, you can claim them to be China Air Task Force. Here is a picture of my patches made both ways. I look forward to other comments.

Good Morning my friends.

  I have been trying to find out the best way to display my AVG Silk (1942) and noticed you have this one
displayed in a nice frame. Very Nice, any advice on the best way to display silk, materials used in display
or even better the name of who may have done this for you ? Looking for Museum Quality work as i want
to make sure it can be done without damage

  Hi gentlemen and ladies.  I have been collecting for over 50 years. But this is my first post on this forum. I recently inherited these pins from my father, also a collector. The first one I know is an AVG Peacock pin front and back. Photo  #4 of course is the Chinese sun pin. #3 and #5 I know nothing about. Unfortunately there is no paper work with these pins, so I do not have a name to go with them. I was hoping that there was a list of names and pin numbers to show who wore this Peacock Pin. I have searched the web and have only found two other original pins, I am aware that reproductions are out there. All of these were found together, more than likely bought at a coin store, coin show, or even a swap meet. Thanks for any Info. you may have.

Your first peacock pin is authentic. Congrats.  They were issued in January 1942 to all bona fide AVG Flying Tigers personnel. According to other experts there were 300 of these pins issued.  The other pins are all related to post July 1942 AVG period & most likely to do with the Chinese Army Airforce more than the U.S. CATF (July 1942 to December 1943 actual) & the 14th Airforce (Jan 1944 to Feb 1946 actual). I do not know much about the latter pins, as I specialise in AVG only.

I have spent the last couple of days going over this thread, and it has to rate as one of my favorites of the entire website - the items shown and wealth of knowledge shared is incredible.

 

I hope you will permit me to add a minor footnote: back on page 8, post #192, a wonderful and rare selection of Flying Tiger and Flying Tiger Line company wings was shown by flytiger. I would like to share something from small cargo carrier contracted by the US government that operated briefly in the mid-1960s: Flying Tiger Air Services. While the US government leased the 6-7 aircraft from Flying Tiger Line, FTAS and FTL were not affiliated in any way.  The cap and wings below belonged to my stepfather.

Part Two- a wonderful AVG grouping to one of the more colorfully improbable characters of the war: Henry L. "Little Ole" Olson. ...3rd Sqdn Crew Chief to PJ Greene, pulled an RAF pilot from a burning Hurricane wreck during a bombing raid, returned to the States, ran for Congress, claiming to have been an AVG pilot, shot down twice, only to then join the Army Air Force and win the Distinguished Service Cross as a P-47 pilot with the 396th Fighter Squadron!
