AirMechanic Posted February 8, 2016 Share #1 Posted February 8, 2016 This Purple Heart sold as a Buy It Now on ebay a few days ago. I didn't purchase the medal, as I am not very familiar with the different engraving styles found on WWII USMC KIA Purple Hearts. That medal itself looks fine to me, but can someone tell me if the engraving is official or perhaps done by a jeweler?
SgtMaddoxUSMC Posted February 8, 2016 Share #2 Posted February 8, 2016 I am by no means an expert either but it doesn't look like any of the official engraving that I have seen so I am going to say it was probably done privately. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in though!
grovb Posted February 8, 2016 Share #3 Posted February 8, 2016 looked like the right format to me. I was second in line.

pchepurko Posted February 8, 2016 Share #9 Posted February 8, 2016 He is listed on the WWII Memorial as KIA. In Jan, 1945 he is listed with the 15th Marines, 6th Division.
katieony Posted February 8, 2016 Share #10 Posted February 8, 2016 From the examples I've seen, they are usually mid-1945 posthumous awards.
