kquest Posted February 6, 2016 Share #1 Posted February 6, 2016 I generally collect WWII items but recently purchased this entrenching tool. I was impressed with the condition and the historical significance of this item. The blade is in perfect condition and does not appear to have been sharpened. I would like to find out all I can about this item, it's rarity, and from a conservation/display point of view the following question. I would like to display this item mounted on the yellow felt(please see last photo) and in a plexi-glass shadow box. Is there any problem with the leather scabbard or metal blade contacting the felt material? Any observations or comments/advice would be appreciated. Thank you, Ken
retread12345 Posted February 10, 2016 Share #2 Posted February 10, 2016 It appears to be a Model 1878 entrenching tool. Great condition. I have seen photos of WW I era troops with these on their cartridge belts.
