skir Posted February 6, 2016 Share #1 Posted February 6, 2016 Recent pick up, CO of VAW 115 taped flight helmet with bag and some extras. Helmet has been stored in a garage for the past 30 years so the foam in the ear cups are gone along with some rubber coating on the comm plug. There is s 2in crack in the rear of the visor housing (see pics) but is still a fantastic helmet. Will be for sale so if any interest just PM . northcoastaero Posted February 6, 2016 Share #5 Posted February 6, 2016 The helmet is a 1976 contract APH-6DL modified to the APH-6CL configuration with the dual visor assy. One of the rectangular amplifiers would connect to the end of the boom microphone cable. According to wikipedia.org, VAW-115 flew the Grumman E-2B and possibly the E-2C Hawkeye at this time. The helmet also has an earlier M-95A/UR boom microphone element. The black Velcro patch on the right side of the visor housing is for the SDU-5/E survival strobe light. Nice helmet.
