stucky151 Posted January 31, 2016 Share #1 Posted January 31, 2016 1904 or 1914 time frame? The brown paint is chipping and under neath looks like sterling, not brass. Still happy to have them!

Brig Posted January 31, 2016 Share #4 Posted January 31, 2016 Look to be repainted, maybe, quite possibly period... the finish is so thick it's obscuring the details of the birds
SgtMaddoxUSMC Posted February 1, 2016 Share #5 Posted February 1, 2016 At first I thought they were plastic because of the finish! Shame that someone did that..
jweitkamp Posted February 1, 2016 Share #6 Posted February 1, 2016 I believe these these may be *************** pieces that have been painted.
stucky151 Posted February 1, 2016 Author Share #7 Posted February 1, 2016 I believe most of the service emblems were painted like so for the era
stucky151 Posted February 1, 2016 Author Share #8 Posted February 1, 2016 I dont believe the were re-painted, its a very thin application, though it does mute the finer details.
normaninvasion Posted February 1, 2016 Share #9 Posted February 1, 2016 I could be wrong but they look like the 1903.com pieces that were painted?
stucky151 Posted February 1, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted February 1, 2016 Crap i hope not. Anyone have a solid piece to compare to
normaninvasion Posted February 1, 2016 Share #11 Posted February 1, 2016 I was hoping to hear that there was heavy paint obscuring the details such as feathers and head details. Check the ref section under officer service emblems in 1904 section. Also check the fakes and fantasy section of the EGA section for examples similar to the ones shown above. There are different variations of this pattern and it saw some service. But I'm a little uncomfortable with the lack of details
stucky151 Posted February 1, 2016 Author Share #12 Posted February 1, 2016 Do you think it would be wise to remove the paint to double check. They feel good in hand, not like alot of other fakes.
normaninvasion Posted February 1, 2016 Share #13 Posted February 1, 2016 I wouldn't remove the paint. I would also see if some others have an opinion on them
teufelhunde.ret Posted February 2, 2016 Share #14 Posted February 2, 2016 These are repro's by NCHS, go to the EGA discussion area and look for the pinned thread on fantasy, repro etc EGAs. On page eight you will find these, followed by a set my 1904 service collars that are the real deal. s/f

usmcaviator Posted February 9, 2016 Share #17 Posted February 9, 2016 No doubt the very bad NCHS repos. Sadly, they are peddled as originals quite often. In this case, someone painted them to try and hide the fact that they lack detail and would otherwise be very easily detected.
