toshik Posted January 28, 2016 Share #1 Posted January 28, 2016 Were there any fashion/tailoring differences between officer's and EM IKEs from WW2 period? I understand that insignia was different.
jguy1986 Posted January 28, 2016 Share #2 Posted January 28, 2016 If we're talking about the standard Ike jacket, there were enlisted and officer versions, but without looking at the manufacturer's tag it was difficult to tell the difference. When the Ike style became all the rage, there were a lot of officers who acquired the enlisted jacket and wore it with officers' insignia. Now, since officers had to purchase their own clothing, bigger differences start to pop up when discussing privately purchased or tailor-made Ike jackets. They often (but not always) had the officers' cuff braid and were made of a darker shade of wool -- if someone could share the differences between the shades of OD, that would be great, but I can't recall the specifics right now. Things like exposed or covered buttons, flat or pleated pockets, etc., all these little details varied from tailor to tailor.
