Johnny Signor Posted January 28, 2016 Share #4 Posted January 28, 2016 Reunion patch or recent "repro "for the WW2 era 498th Bombardment Squadron(one of two versions they used ) see image ......
Randy Posted January 28, 2016 Share #5 Posted January 28, 2016 The colors are so far removed from the original that I wonder if the design has been borrowed and used somewhere else. It is not unheard of for foreign units to base their designs on existing US patches. Or this could be a terrible copy. But the colors and manufacture style look Asian to me regardless. Patchcollector Posted January 28, 2016 Share #6 Posted January 28, 2016 Here is one I found online that has colors more like the one originally posted. I found this image at this excellent site: http://www.lostworldsinc.com/Original_Army_Air_Forces_Squadron_Patches_1.html
Randy Posted January 28, 2016 Share #7 Posted January 28, 2016 Wow, that's a far cry from the other one. So the OP looks to be a reunion patch possibly. Pretty wild colors for an AAF patch... Randy

Johnny Signor Posted January 28, 2016 Share #9 Posted January 28, 2016 yeah , quite a few of the AAF unit patches had a lot of "variations' in both details and colors , even the leather patch I made was from an original WW2 image, so you can see what I mean by "variations"
Phantomf4 Posted January 29, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted January 29, 2016 So I did some reading on the 498th, it appears they flew B-57 Canberras after the war, This "Doom Pussy" repo was with this patch also which is a B-57 unit, Must have come from a reunion of B-57 guys. Randy Posted January 29, 2016 Share #11 Posted January 29, 2016 While the 498 did fly B-57s in the 50s, the Doom Pussy patch was used by the 8th and 13th Bomb Sqs in SEA in the 60s. There is a lot of neat info out on the net about it and what it represents. Randy
Johnny Signor Posted January 30, 2016 Share #12 Posted January 30, 2016 The unit was assigned to the 345th Bombardment Group , look up the Group pages and you'll find some of their aircraft(B-25s) with the emblem on the nose or wheel covers ,and here's another I found online
