bellasilva Posted January 22, 2016 Share #1 Posted January 22, 2016 Looking to find out from any early OIF/OEF vets, were your dog tags embossed or debossed? Meaning raised lettering as you read it or stamped lettering as you read it. I enlisted in 2005 and mine were debossed but I remember hearing early 2000's tags were embossed. I'm also aware that there were anomolies.
Sully Posted January 22, 2016 Share #2 Posted January 22, 2016 I enlisted in 2003 and my tags are embossed.
Brig Posted January 22, 2016 Share #3 Posted January 22, 2016 I enlisted in 2004 and I had both. I received my initial issue at bootcamp, and then a couple of sets to put in my boots and such prior to deployment in 2005. One issue was embossed, one was debossed...can't recall which. Also have to remember that many personnel replace their own tags through the PX and shops out in town, all of which may have different machines than the issuing agency
Major Z Posted January 22, 2016 Share #4 Posted January 22, 2016 Enlisted in 1996, commissioned 2000. I still wear my original debossed set from 20 years ago. Lord, did I just say that? I deployed during OIF I, OIF III, and the surge OIF 07-09 and they were with me always.
turko Posted February 23, 2016 Share #5 Posted February 23, 2016 I enlisted in 2001. The tags I was issued (from Fort Benning and Fort Campbell) were embossed, but I've gotten some at off-post places that were debossed.
bellasilva Posted February 23, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted February 23, 2016 Thanks gents. Trying to nail down a time period for a set of tags I have to a 3rd Infantry Division mortar guy who went to Iraq in 2003 with the spearhead force. I suppose there's no real way of determining age based on the different types of stamping done.
KRIS FORD Posted February 27, 2018 Share #7 Posted February 27, 2018 If it is of any value, I went in the USN in '92..mine were embossed.
