Scott C. Posted January 18, 2016 #1 Posted January 18, 2016 I have this 2-inch, clutch-back, command pilot wing marked Sterling Davorn. Anyone know the period these were made? I did a fourm search for "Davorn", but came up empty. Sorry for the pink background - the cloth was a maroon color, I swear!
Scott C. Posted January 22, 2016 Author #2 Posted January 22, 2016 FWIW, my internet search turned up several DAVORN wing examples identical to mine on ebay, as well as DAVORN-marked US Army Marksman awards. Additional internet references to DAVORN military insignia appear to originate from the 1970s, although I would expect a manufacturer code number by then. Anyway, sketchy evidence seems to point to a 1970s or later manufacture date... unless someone has additional facts.
lamarhooten Posted January 19, 2025 #3 Posted January 19, 2025 I have an Expert Marksmanship badge that has this maker mark on it. Came from the family of GI that lost his life in 1944. This puts the use of this maker/identification to at least that time frame. Has the old-style folding bar/pin Tiffany style attachment on the back and STERLING.
lamarhooten Posted January 19, 2025 #4 Posted January 19, 2025 There was a jewelry maker called Dorson's that changed their name to DAVORN Industries in 1961 and was gone by the late '70s. This is the closest I have come to a match. This might explain the newer badges, but there are others, like mine that are known to be older than 1961. More than a few marksmanship type badges with the older style pin catch on the back are listed on various sites for sale.
pfrost Posted January 19, 2025 #5 Posted January 19, 2025 This pattern has also shown up with a Robbins' hallmark. IF you search some of the threads about Robbins, you will find a post by Russ that talks about that. I know nothing about DAVORN, but if suspect that this badge is well after WWII vintage. P
