GITom1944 Posted January 13, 2016 Share #1 Posted January 13, 2016 This is a screenshot from the 1944 documentary "Attack" showing 2 LVT crewmen wearing infantry style crash helmets during the invasion of New Britain. This is the first time I've noticed them actually being used overseas. Has anyone seen other instances? Tom
LarryM3 Posted January 13, 2016 Share #2 Posted January 13, 2016 I have seen one or two photos of USMC tankers, c.1943, with the Infantry Style tank helmet. I suspect a supply of these helmets were in Australia and therefore relatively easy to procure. I have also seen several examples of un-issued examples, small sizes, come out of Australia. My hunch is that these were sent to Australia in 1942 along with M-3 and M-5 tanks but not used as the Aussies, like the Brits, preferred berets.
