2ndInf.Div. Posted January 6, 2016 Share #1 Posted January 6, 2016 I got this for a great price on eBay (wasn't expecting it to go for so little!). The name and ASN were a dead end online. I made a trip to the NPRC yesterday to do some research, and I was fortunate enough that they had a reconstructed record for him. Turns out it belonged to Donald Ostrander of L. Co., 145th IR. This is particularly interesting given that L. Co., as part of the 145th's 3rd Battalion, was part of the northern landing force that fought on New Georgia island along with the 1st Marine Raider Battalion and 3rd Battalion, 148th IR. Perhaps this mess kit was tucked away in Ostrander's pack during the battle, perhaps not. Either way, I couldn't be happier with it! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
