1944 musette bag with nylon trim

I owned a few hundred musette bags over the years, but this is my first with nylon trim. The bag is dated 1944. I've only heard about them but never found one. The main flap's trim is in cotton, but the inner edge is nylon.

Here's my 1938 dated musette bag. These HBT like suspenders came with it. No dated just a big US on the front. I actually have 2 pair of these. Plus a 1940 dated pair.

Hi Robin,

Great looking bag! Do you have any more information on what kind of suspenders the ones that came with it are and when they were made? Are they pre-war m36 suspenders or something else?

Hi, I am new to the forum here. Lots of great stuff to read up on.

I am collecting 9th Infantry Division items and slowly get stuff in.

I have one like this Musette bag as well, coming from the Cherbourg area. It seems to have a nylon trimming. Mine is stamped 1942.

Which also led me to another question: could a musette bag with the extra tap on the flap like this be used in the Normandy campaign? There are some that claim these are "late types" and never could have been around in Normandy. I like to think these were available then, as I checked with two veterans. I have seen Musettes like these with 1942, 1943 and 1944 stamps. Any info on this would be appreciated.

So the nylon edge binding goes back further than a lot of us thought...neat stuff here, guys!

Here is another '38 Bag, Canvas, Field, with '37-made Suspenders, both produced at Jeffersonville...

Are you sure that trim is nylon?

Hi Johan,

Sorry, my bad, had a look at the thread, not the trimming. It just looked very similar, the thread, not the trim.

As I said, I am here to learn. Very nice items you all have.

Nice and very rare find...

Here's a Carbine Ammo Pouch with nylon trim for reference...

I have a WWII Grenade sight pouch with nylon trimming on it.

All fittings riveted in, not removable. They must have revised this early on...

Outstanding bag 'Flage! You always surprise me with your fantastic pile of gear. ^_^
