doyler Posted December 21, 2015 Share #2 Posted December 21, 2015 Looks like a woolie that had a border put on it at some point
tredhed2 Posted December 21, 2015 Share #3 Posted December 21, 2015 The Jul-Sept 2005 Trading Post discusses this specific and other WW II merrowed edge patches (page 13). It's not common, that's for sure.
jw1969 Posted December 21, 2015 Share #4 Posted December 21, 2015 Looks like a woolie that had a border put on it at some point I agree with doyler. In the lower right corner (at the photo of the front) and in the lower left corner (at the photo of the back), there's still a part of the OD wool base fabric that can be seen. H. Proud Kraut Posted December 21, 2015 Share #5 Posted December 21, 2015 I don't know if this falls into the same category but we've had some threads about subsequently merrowed patches in the past. Here are two of them: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/15524-susequently-merrowed-patches/?hl=%2Bsubsequently+%2Bmerrowed http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/242805-ever-seen-a-ww2-patch-with-the-merrowed-edge-added-later/?hl=%2Bsubsequently+%2Bmerrowed&do=findComment&comment=1940584
WorldWarPatches Posted December 22, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted December 22, 2015 Started out as a woolie is not in question, that is quite evident. Just wondering why it has a merrowed edge and if anyone has seen one before.
tredhed2 Posted December 22, 2015 Share #7 Posted December 22, 2015 The 1st AD illustrated in the article is a "woolie" and the authors indicated the merrow had been applied. It looks just like yours. That yours came on a robe w/ 139 other period patches is telling. The article has more info and the article is on the website. WorldWarPatches Posted December 23, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted December 23, 2015 This time I was able to access the article. I can't seem to download and print. Also the patch does appear to be the same. Thanks to you both Dave and Bob.

Thanks to you both Dave and Bob. Members can read only, back issues are printable. I think they are downloadable to various E-readers.
