USS REASONER (DE-1063) Knox class in service 1970 to 1993.  

 

Reasoner first deployed in 1973 to Southeast Asia and took part in Operation End Sweep (the removal of mines in Haiphong Harbor).

USS VOGE (DE-1047) Garcia class Destroyer Escort in service 1966 to 1989.  Reclassified as FF-1047 (Fast Frigate) in 1975.

WOODS HOLE OCEANOGRAPHIC INSTITUTION, Hilborn-Hamburger, 1960's

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution - a private, nonprofit research and higher education facility dedicated to the study of marine science and engineering.  Established in 1930 in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, it is the largest independent oceanographic research institution in the U.S., with staff and students numbering about 1,000.

Far East - Lexington's next Far Eastern tour began late in 1960, and was extended well into 1961 by renewed tension in Laos. Returning to west coast operations, she was ordered in January 1962 to prepare to relieve Antietam as aviation training carrier in the Gulf of Mexico, and she was redesignated CVS-16 on 1 October 1962. However, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, she resumed duty as an attack carrier, and she did not relieve Antietam until 29 December 1962 at Pensacola, Florida.

Sacramento Class leader Fast Combat Support Ship in service 1964 to 2004

Joint Task Force Eight (JTF-8)

When the Soviet Union resumed nuclear atmospheric testing in September 1961, the United States responded with its own testing in Operation Dominic I. These tests took place from April to November 1962. In addition, the Navy conducted two tests in May 1962. Questions exist about the level of radiation exposure crewmen were subjected to during these tests.
