USS HARRY E. YARNELL (DLG-17) Leahy class in service 1963 to 1993. Originally a Destroyer Leader (DLG-17) from 1963, reclassified (CG-17) in 1975

Hilborn-Hamburger version, small and large. Her 1960's patches were round, later they became oval shaped

USCGC GLACIER (AGB-4) In USCG Service, Operation Deep Freeze, Hilborn Hamburger patch circa late 1960's

 

Improved Wind class Icebreaker in USN service 1955 to 1966. She participated in 11 Deep Freeze operations for the USN. Later in USCG service 1966 to 1987

Improved Wind class Icebreaker in USN service 1955 to 1966. She participated in 11 Deep Freeze operations for the USN. Later in USCG service 1966 to 1987

USS DECATUR (DDG-31) Built and commissioned in 1956 as a Forrest Sherman class destroyer (DD-936), in 1964 she was heavily damaged in a collision with the aircraft carrier USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CVS-39). DECATUR was rebuilt, redesignated and commissioned as a guided missile destroyer in 1966 and served in this capacity until her decommissioning in 1983.



This is her recommissioning patch from 1966 made by Hilborn-Hamburger

USS CASCADE (AD-16) Destroyer Tender, only ship in it's class, in service 1943 to 1974

 

Hilborn Hamburger version made during her Cold War assignment as flagship Sixth Fleet. During this time Cascade served as flagship, and carried the flag of Commander, Service Force, 6th Fleet, and the flag of Commander, Destroyer Flotilla 6. She also served as flagship for Commander, Destroyer Force, Atlantic. She served in this role as flagship and tender up through 1963. From 1970 to 1974, the Cascade was forward deployed to the Mediterranean, homeported in Naples Italy.

USS ALAMO (LSD-33) Thomaston class dock landing ship in service 1956 to 1990. USS Alamo earned the Armed Forces Service Expeditionary Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal (with 11 campaign stars) for Vietnam War Service

USS BAGLEY (DE-1069) Knox class in service 1972 to 1991, Motto: Fleet's Finest. Cold Warrior, Gulf of Sidra "Line of Death", Operation Praying Mantis, Persian Gulf

 

1972 to 1974 Hilborn Hamburger version, she was redesignated as FF-1069 in 1975

USS KINKAID (DD-965) Spruance class in service 1976 to 2003 - The 'new' Spruance class destroyers being commissioned in 1976 (KINKAID was the third one) were the last USN ship patches that H-H made for the fleet.

 

When Hilborn-Hamburger (and Gemsco) ceased production after the fall of Saigon, Swiss-Tex picked up the slack and went into full production of USN patches until they ceased in 1991.

USS DOWNES (FF-1070) Knox class frigate in service 1971 to 1992.  She started her naval career as a Destroyer Escort (DE-1070) and was reclassified as a Fast Frigate (FF-1070) in 1975 making this a very easy patch to date as Hilborn Hamburger stopped production of naval patches circa 1976.
