It is not mint or perfect condition, just like I like most of my collection. Think I am going to frame it in double glass just like it sits right now. Hoping I can research the veterans name.

Great letter Robert i saw this on eBay earlier and thought about bidding on it. I'm glad it went to a good home and would love to see it once you get it framed !

If you leave those items taped to that cheap cardboard, it will further damage them. Take it to a local conservator if you can, which is highly recommended. If not the if the tape is dry and flaking, very carefully remove the items from the cardboard and then very very carefully remove the tape.
