Aurel Posted December 8, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted December 8, 2015 Hi, Thank you very much for this information ! USAAF is not my speciality . This pilot served in Europe ? what plane ? Where was based the 3021 AAFBU ? It's possible to find a picture of this pilot ? Amicalement Aurel
bobgee Posted December 9, 2015 Share #9 Posted December 9, 2015 I would ask someone on the Forum to check for a MACR (Missing Aircrew Report). With a DFC and Air Medal and the fact his Mae West was found in Belgium he might have been shot down. My 2-cents. Bobgee
doinworkinvans Posted December 9, 2015 Share #10 Posted December 9, 2015 I have checked everywhere - could not find a MACR The reason I was thinking he was killed in an accident is that his death was in the 50s. He enlisted in 39 -44 and then 44-45....so I was thinking maybe he came back to be a trainer.
phantomfixer Posted December 9, 2015 Share #11 Posted December 9, 2015 Trying to connect the dots here...mae west found in Belgium, vet served up to 45 and survived, discharged in 45..., and died in Kentucky in 1951.... or is place of death not certain? Cause of death not certain....accident, illness,,,???? seems to be many scenarios on how the mae west wound up in Belgium I am thinking he died in the states, life preserver remained in Europe, or found its way to Belgium postwar, and the family in Kentucky requested a headstone based on his status as a honorably discharged veteran BTW I think the vest is way cool with a story...worth researching more on the pilot and his service
Aurel Posted December 9, 2015 Author Share #12 Posted December 9, 2015 Hi, Thank you very much for your help I owns this vest for several years. There is a lot of assumption on the death. Maybe wounded during the war in Belgium and died of injuries in 1951 ?? I think that this vest was worn during a crash . I hope to know this history...
