treetop Posted December 7, 2015 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2015 Picked this plaque up at the Raleigh show earlier this year. It is named to a SEAL team 8 member. Also got the ERDL bush hat with SEAL cloth sew on on front.

Tonomachi Posted December 8, 2015 Share #4 Posted December 8, 2015 I will try to get it done within this week. I've only ever come across one ERDL boonie hat with a sewn on Trident (see photos) at the 2014 ASMIC Show in San Diego. The boonie hat is an original piece dated 1969 and the Trident is sewn on ERDL material which in turn is sewn on the front of the hat. However this is in my opinion a put together piece to deceive folks out of their money as the asking price as I recall was a couple of hundred dollars. My reasoning is that by the time the Tridents were authorized for wear the Vietnam War was basically over especially for Seal Teams 1 & 2 which returned stateside leaving very few Seals in country as advisors. But more important the embroidery is the current embroidery used today except embroidered on a piece of ERDL material. The only way that this could be an original piece is if a current group of Seals somehow obtained a number of period SVN War era ERDL uniforms for a current training or other mission in a jungle environment. This is why I'm curious to see what type of Trident is sewn on your ERDL hat.

treetop Posted December 10, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted December 10, 2015 Sir, what a small world you saw on west coast and looks like I saw on east coast. I got this from a retired Army officer who, for a time was stationed around Virginia Beach area and does have a lot of SEAL items.
Tonomachi Posted December 11, 2015 Share #7 Posted December 11, 2015 I've attached a photograph of current cloth Tridents embroidered on a variety of current USN camouflage material. They are exactly like the embroidered Trident on your rectangular piece of ERDL camouflage material. In my opinion this style of embroidered cloth Trident did not exist during the SVN War. I do not know who is supplying these cloth Tridents for the Vanguard insignia company but their metal Tridents are being produced and supplied by Communist China. I have seen this same cloth Trident embroidered on a piece of Tiger Stripe and Beogam camouflage material.
treetop Posted December 11, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted December 11, 2015 Tonomachi, I have to agree with your assessment. This why I stopped collecting RV N items
