Username Posted December 4, 2015 Share #1 Posted December 4, 2015 Recently picked up this M2 kit. It looks complete, and the pouch is very clean! It has a partially opened sulfadiazine, but I am unsure if it came from the cardboard or foil type wrapping. I dont have it in hand yet, but would love some input. Survival Posted December 4, 2015 Share #5 Posted December 4, 2015 Possibly a 1943 dated pouch. The contents are earlier style. Probably had a paper cover on the sulfa pills rather then cardstock. looks like the insect repellant leaked over everything.
Username Posted December 4, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted December 4, 2015 Could be! Not so often you see a complete 1943 example. I have been looking for one for at least two years. The only 1943 dated pouches that I have seen in this dark OD where made by "ARNOLD MFG CO" so my moneys on that. Pretty common the see the insect repellent all over everything, however it does confirm the contents have been together for awhile.
'Flage Guy Posted December 5, 2015 Share #7 Posted December 5, 2015 I have a '43-dated M2 made by "Five Filer Bros.", so there's one more maker for the record. Really neat to see all the "guts" laid out to see; thanks for the pics!
b_hinch Posted December 5, 2015 Share #8 Posted December 5, 2015 Here's my 1943 dated which looks to be made by "J.P. SHOE". The tin snake bite kit is an add-on.
Username Posted December 5, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted December 5, 2015 I see 1943 pouches for sale fairly often, But I have been waiting to find a Boyt example to go with some contents I have put together. I have been on the lookout for a long time, but just need to keep thinking "any day now..."
rambob Posted December 5, 2015 Share #10 Posted December 5, 2015 You do have the correct components for your M2 kit. BTW. Here is one of two kits I own that came still packed in their original boxes for reference. Pouch is dated 1945. FYI. Even though still sealed the Frazers solution completely evaporated. Browninggunner688 Posted December 5, 2015 Share #11 Posted December 5, 2015 Nice set, I have been looking out for a 43 dated one for years now here in England and I just cannot find one. I have been putting together a list of makers and dates for these pouches along with the U.S. font style, which up to now I have found 3 different styles, I record these as ( S-1 thick U.S.) ( S-2 thin U.S. ) ( S-3 very thin U.S. ) . The ones listed without the font size means I could not see the U.S. stamp due to it being too worn. If any one has any other makers and dates along with the font styles please let me know, the list I have has been put together from my own collection and from finding pictures of pouches on ebay and various forums ect. Username Posted December 6, 2015 Author Share #14 Posted December 6, 2015 I have been comparing my pouch to others dated 1944 or later. The overall shape, and US stamp suggests mine in 1943. Considering the contents, that would make this an un-messed with set!

Chief Bast Posted December 7, 2015 Share #20 Posted December 7, 2015 Fantastic early-style pickup! It's always great to see an all-original jungle kit without the hodge-podge of Korean War and Vietnam-dated items inside. And Bob, you make me misty-eyed every time that picture is posted of your complete kit.

knd643 Posted December 7, 2015 Share #22 Posted December 7, 2015 Here's my complete M2 Jungle first aid kit made by Five Filers Bro in 1943. The seller said he got it from a WW2 vet who is also a collector and the vet got it at a antique store with all of its contents. Here;s the link to the topic I posted about it. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234236-sos-find-m2-jungle-first-aid-kit/
