'Flage Guy Posted November 23, 2015 Share #26 Posted November 23, 2015 Even the purple dye used one the DQP stamps, it had to be vegetable oil. . As easily as it seemed to wash out, that makes sense There was a Frogskin Vest sold out of Manion's many years ago, but it was more intricate than the M2...could have been the same one though; I understand that it came from a vendor in the Midwest or North somewhere. A very fine-looking piece of gear! I have all my old catalogues; I'll dig it up and load up some pics of the Vest (at another time; can't remember which storage box it's in). USMCman01 Posted November 23, 2015 Author Share #27 Posted November 23, 2015 Please do, that would be very cool to see. I could go on all day with insignificant things like the thickness of the canvas on gear. That may be a thread for the future. Hopefully some of these mysteries can be solved to further our knowledge on gear.
knd643 Posted November 23, 2015 Share #28 Posted November 23, 2015 Those are some beautiful packs you guys have. I have been wanting a P1912 haversack for sometime now but I haven't really tried to look for one since I have been looking for other items. That meat can pouch that you have Flage is awesome. Do you guys know whether the P1912 haversack was issued more to Marines or the M1910/M1928 haversack was issued more to Marines? I have seen some discussions talking about it but no one came to an agreement on which was issued more often.
USMCman01 Posted November 23, 2015 Author Share #29 Posted November 23, 2015 There might be something in a reference book, I'll check later today. You are right. No one knows for sure. Personally, I believe the P1912 haversack was issued more based on period photos of pre war times and thr fact that these were produced very late and they have stocks of them. Username Posted November 26, 2015 Share #33 Posted November 26, 2015 I used to have two of these packs awhile back, I ended up selling them for like $40 each... I didn't really know how rare they where. One was stone mint without pack tail, looked like it was a WWII example because it was made out of that light mustard fabric. The other one had the tail, and looked more WW1 era, it also had name stamps on it. Just a couple more items I regret parting with...
