355fg Posted November 15, 2015 Share #1 Posted November 15, 2015 1st Lt Edward J Fitzgerald   Yonkers, New York 25th Bomb Group 653rd Bomb Squadron Killed in Action November 22, 1944 Air Medal w/2OLC Purple Heart Lt. Fitzgerald was Co-Pilot/Navigator of a Mosquito weather reconnaissance plane when it crashed in severe weather near Great Cressingham just after takeoff from AAF Station Watton on November 22, 1944. He and the pilot were both killed and the plane completely destroyed. The 25th Bomb Group was designated as a reconnaissance group flying photo, weather and scouting missions for the 8th Air Force. 355fg Posted November 16, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted November 16, 2015 Thank you! He is indeed buried in Cambridge. This is only the 2nd Air Medal I've seen to a Mosquito crew member.
