AN-J-3A

This is the predecessor of the famous G-1 jacket. There is NO G-1 jacket in WW2, the first G-1 is made in 1947.

I tried looking this up for you, and discovered that other people have been unable to identify Bugs Bunny insignia too... I think there are 3-4 very similar versions existing out there.

Here is the link I saw, which you may know about already.

WFS S-18342B

For some odd reason that I do not know, a lot of people named this suite as G-8 but this name is not the official name.

Kenneth,

The USAF heraldry office has replied. I copy their message here below. There were attached 6 images to his mail. One of them closely resembles the Bugs Bunny image on your leather jacket. It came from the 427th Bomb Squadron.

I am unsure of how to get the attachments sent to you other than by forwarding, or some other way.

Here is the text of our conversation, so you'll have those contacts for yourself if you wish.

"I am most grateful to you Mr. Bailey.

We are trying our best to identify that unit, era, and related matters for historical and provenance purposes.

I will pass your generous reply on to the others for their handling.

Mr. Bell,

I've attached several Bugs Bunny emblems that were used during WW II.

Perhaps these explain why you see so many different versions. Be aware

that these emblems are copyrighted and you must receive permission

before publishing.

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

In WWII, some aviation unit used an image of a standing Bugs Bunny,

chomping on a carrot... usually painted on the chest or back of leather

flight jackets. I've seen a few versions of the image, but cannot find

anything to identify the name/number of the unit. I've tried every known

publication I could get access to. Can anyone tell me what it is,

please? MSBell USAF 1963-66 43151A 3345th CMS, ATC

A-2, 7th FS, 49th FG, 49th FW, 5th AAF, USAAF

This is a very rare painted A-2 that belongs to a fighter pilot instead of bomber crew. You probably find 10 bomber crew painted jackets to 1 fighter pilot painted jacket.

Very nice reference thread that you have started! Hope this one gets pinned also.

Here is a N-2B with hood. The tag is a little unclear, but I believe that the contract date is 1962 (maybe 1952?). Note the compass on the sleeve pocket. This coat came from a PJ who gave it to his little brother. His little brother (now grown and in his 50's) gave it to me.

USAAF B-13 Officer's Flight Jacket, Major, USAAF (ex-8th AAF, USAAF)

This is my new addition to my collection. This is the Officer version of flight jacket, it is more of a service dress jacket. The other ranks version is call B-14. I do not understand the rational to design such jackets as it is different from A-2, B-15 etc. This jacket is very rare.
