hardstripe Posted November 8, 2015 Share #1 Posted November 8, 2015 I had a great time at the recent OVMS show in Wilmington, Ohio this past weekend. I picked up 64 new chevrons for my collection. Here are some pictures of my newly acquired chevrons. Dennis

hardstripe Posted November 8, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted November 8, 2015 All of the two-inch Korean War era chevrons were made in Japan. The large Technician 4th Grade is unusual. The stripes are gold metallic braid.

hardstripe Posted November 12, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted November 12, 2015 I believe these were theater made in Vietnam. I purchased mine from Harry McAllister, a long time Air Force patch collector who has since passed away. I believe he sold the mates to my pair to Marjorie Mueller, another longtime collector who has since passed. These are identical to mine other than the slight variations present from being made one at a time on a sewing machine. Harry told me he picked them up in Vietnam during the early 1970s. These have been sold.
Lee Ragan Posted November 15, 2015 Share #11 Posted November 15, 2015 That is a super collection. I'm envious for sure as I could use many of them in my collection. Thanks for showing them.

A good guess would be the usual reason, it was on the record of duly authorized insignia's, this despite the fact that they were never used (at least maybe the Spec 9, and were done away with. The tailor probably worked off a USA Rank sheet. Same reason I'm imagining with the U.S. made machine embroidered subdued circa 1966-69 seen in this topic, the maker just making them because they were on the records. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/117158-army-specialist-8-9-insignia/page-

These Spec8/9 ranks could be examples of that.

These Spec8/9 ranks could be examples of that. When you say Collector Initiated do we take it then that the Vietnamese made obscure ones for units no longer active? Lets say in examples, the 509th PIB Ginger Bread Man Merril's Maruders patches etc, WWI types like the Camp Pontanezen patch etc etc.
Major Z Posted November 30, 2015 Share #15 Posted November 30, 2015 Your Master QM in color is really something. I've never encountered one but I'd love to add one someday. Nice pick-ups!
