Revolutionary War JAMES POTTER Horseman's Sabre

Revolutionary War JAMES POTTER Horseman's Sabre of over 41 inches long overall...No sheath (only 3 known have a sheath)...If you know swords, you know what a "Potter" is, this is one!

"This pattern of light dragoon saber is the most famous, and collectible, of all Revolutionary War enlisted swords. Copied from British light horse examples, it was produced in the Maiden Lane workshops of New York cutler James Potter and is the only maker-marked,American-made saber of standard pattern with indisputable, documented usage by both sides during the War for Independence" James Kochen

The sword is in very fine condition retaining its original wire grip wrap and an old thin layer of black painted finish applied several generations ago by a member of the family whose ancestor carried it in the war...Easily cleaned, but I'll leave it untouched as found..."

Thanks for looking. Ed

You should see the other one!

If you've never seen one firsthand it's surprising how large these swords are. Cavalrymen were not large men and it would take some serious strength to wield one of these effectively. Ed
