BEAST Posted October 30, 2015 Share #3 Posted October 30, 2015 Really nice example! Just as a side note, do you keep any documentation with it? For example, where/when you found it, type of vehicle, etc?
Desertrat Posted October 30, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted October 30, 2015 I have never thought about that. I guess I need to document it for family members down the line. My son knows the stories but eventually things will get confused. I found it in a BMP in Iraq, not sure of the exact location. It was after the Ground War was over, so sometime between the end of February and the end of March 1991.
cr420 Posted October 31, 2015 Share #5 Posted October 31, 2015 I have one of those too, mine was from Kuwait. I had almost forgotten about it
bryang Posted November 3, 2015 Share #6 Posted November 3, 2015 I have a couple I recovered from Iraqi tanks in Kuwait during the ground war. Recently mounted them on my 'man cave' wall for display. Having read this, I realize that I should probably get some small cards and write up what they are, when and where I go them, etc... Won't do any good after I'm gone if family don't know anything about these.
BOLO Posted November 18, 2015 Share #7 Posted November 18, 2015 is the plug in piece for the head set made of metal or black rubber plastic? it seems the older models have a grey colored metal plug and the later ones have a solid black non metal plug
airborne1968 Posted November 18, 2015 Share #8 Posted November 18, 2015 The plugs are also different for the Chinese supplies tanks (ie. type 59) and APCs and will help ID the type of vehicle it came from. Desertrat Posted November 23, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted November 23, 2015 I will have to look at the plug when I get home. I think it is black but am not sure. I will post a pic later.
SergeantMajorGray Posted March 4, 2016 Share #10 Posted March 4, 2016 My Polish tank helmet has a black plug but not my soviets or czech ones. I think only the polis did that as I've seen 91 dated soviet helmets with metal plugs.
Desertrat Posted December 30, 2016 Author Share #11 Posted December 30, 2016 I finally got around to digging the helmet out, The plug is metal, with one side painted blue.
