Return of MP helmets?

58th MP Company out of Schofield Barracks Hawaii has picures on unit facebook page of MPs in new blue/ white Class B uniform checking IDs on post while wearing old style shiny MP helmet with unit insignia. It is unclear whether the old MP helmets are being brought back for good, or whether this was just for a historical commemoration.

As cool as it is to bring back the old MP helmets, they look really weird with the blue and white Class Bs

Every now and then a new commander will come into a post and get a GFI (Great F'ing Idea) and decide to make changes like this. For some reason (probably because they are the first soldiers a visitor sees) the MPs seem to get a lot of the attention for these kinds of things.

Back when I was an MP we did some time on Fort Carson and the rule there was that on Sunday's we'd wear class A uniforms with white hats and bloused boots. Probably about the worst uniform to do any kind of "police" work in as it was hot, uncomfortable and difficult to keep looking sharp.

The class B does look more comfortable but as a practical uniform for MP duty I'm sure it sucks. Hopefully these MPs are not being required to wear their class Bs every day, or if they are they are getting some kind of supplemental uniform allowance since that kind of use will wear a class A or B uniform out quickly.
