I have had this pin for some time and haven't seen another.

 

It's a full size 14th Cavalry DI that has been suspended from a bugle.

 

I assume it is a sweetheart pin. Do you agree ?

That is really cool. I would agree that it is some sort of sweetheart/souvenir pin. And markings on the other side of the DUI? Is it the same size as a standard DUI?

Same size as the regular DI. You can see a partial "cast sterling".

I wouldn't be surprised that it was worn by a 14th Cav band member - some sort of UA recognition.....too large to be a sweetheart pin, which tend to be very small.

 

The DI was approved in 1940 which would account for the sterling mark.

 

It is way cool, though, either way.
