Pep Posted September 29, 2015 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2015 Just wondering who the mfg of this cup is? I had not run across this marking before. At first look I thought it to be Aluminum but the body and handle are magnetic. thanks,
RustyCanteen Posted September 29, 2015 Share #2 Posted September 29, 2015 That is the trademark for Owens-Illinois, which made a lot of mess kits, canteens, cups, etc. Your cup looks like the tinned steel (raw edge) version made in 1942-1943. They were an unsuccessful attempt to reduce aluminum usage during the war. I believe they were declared unserviceable by 1944.

M24SWS Posted December 23, 2019 Share #5 Posted December 23, 2019 Greetings, I picked up a new (to me) tinned steel (raw edge) mess kit. I will try to post pics of it later tonight. The handle is stamped US, but I can't see a date or a makers mark. ~scott
