these highway patrol were blocking spectators while Martin Luther King Jr. led a Civil rights march in Mississippi June 25th 1966

but i thought it was cool because look what one of them has on his head...

Those helmets....the M3's were painted blue and had an MHP decal on the front. I have one in my garage......somewhere. I don't remember ever seeing the MHP wearing M1's.

Very cool photo. I have a M3 on display in my office. Interesting to see it used post-war.

 

I'm assuming by "post-war" you mean post WWII. The USAAF flak helmets were also worn on a limited basis by tankers in the Korean War. There's some discussion of it here: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/154239-m-38-tankers-helmet-w-m-3-flak-helmet/
