Calflash Posted September 15, 2015 Share #1 Posted September 15, 2015 I picked up a combat knife marked "US Ontario". I know it is post Nam and USGI. The sheath has a rack number. What is the offical name? What are the dates of issue? What branches were they issued to? Thanks in advance for the info.
sactroop Posted September 15, 2015 Share #2 Posted September 15, 2015 Knife, Combat. Specification number MIL-DTL-20277. For the Ontario made ones, from the 1980's to present. Available to all branches of the service.
Redleg13a Posted September 15, 2015 Share #3 Posted September 15, 2015 Don't know the first two questions but they were issued to the Marines. Uncle Sam's Retail Outlet (USRO) sold a whole bunch of them and they finally sold out last week during their Labor Day sale. They called them Marine Corps 498 knives. They might have more come in or otherwise be posted for sale but as of now they are out. I ordered one and mine is marked U.S. over Ontario as well. It has the rack number 178 painted on the scabbard.
Calflash Posted September 15, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted September 15, 2015 Uncle Sam's is where I got it. It to has a rack number on the front and an eight digit number scratched on the back, of the scabbard. Thanks again.
