Still-A-Marine Posted September 8, 2015 Share #1 Posted September 8, 2015 Went to the Mariners Museum in Newport News, VA today. Saw a very interesting exhibit dealing with the USS Monitor. Now I want to learn more about the Ironclads. Can anybody suggest a good book or two? Bill
Garnet54 Posted September 8, 2015 Share #2 Posted September 8, 2015 Check out Thunder at Hampton Roads by A.A. Hoehling. It covers the development of the Monitor and the battle with the Virginia (Merrimac). It also covers the sinking of the Monitor off Cape Hatteras. Good Read. Bluejacket Posted September 8, 2015 Share #3 Posted September 8, 2015 Bill, Check "The CSS Virginia: Sink Before Surrender. By John V. Quarstein". Best book on the Virginia ever written. And anyone interested in naval history who is passing thorough the Norfolk area needs to stop at the Mariners Museum. Bluejacket
